The Aptitude Test Pilot

The BSB will soon be conducting a Pilot for the Aptitude Test which is likely to be introduced as an entry requirement for the BPTC for students applying to start the course in September 2011. The purpose of the pilot is to gauge how effective the proposed aptitude test will be in assessing students for suitability for the course.

In order to gain the most from this pilot, we need students from all backgrounds and of all abilities to take part, so that we can have a truly representative sample for assessment. We really need students’ help to monitor standards on the Bar Course and to improve the course for future generations. The pilot will be available for students from the beginning of February, and we are expecting to have the majority of results by the beginning of April, when we will begin to compile the results. The test will however, remain open until August to maximise the sample of students used for the pilot.

Although test results will not be entirely anonymous (as the BSB will need to cross reference Aptitude Test results with final grades) students should be aware that Providers will not be informed of any individuals’ results, and as such students can be sure that their performance in the Aptitude Test Pilot will in no way influence their grades on the BVC or any subsequent qualifications they may seek.

The pilot tests will be run by Pearson Vue, and can be taken at any of the Pearson Vue Test Centres, of which there are hundreds across the country. Once a student has expressed an interest in assisting the BSB, they will be issued with a voucher code which will enable them to book a test spot online at any Pearson Vue centre at a time and date of their convenience. The test will last for one hour.

Students who are interested, or would like further information should email Rosie Faulkner rfaulkner@barstandardsboard.org.uk or call on 0207 6111 444. We look forward to hearing from you, and thank you for your interest in assisting us.
