Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to complete your Complaints Form in order to make a complaint?
Yes. Our Complaints Form has been designed to ensure that we have all of the information that we require in order to consider your complaint efficiently. We are not able to accept formal complaints by telephone or by letter if it is not accompanied by a completed Complaints Form. If you need assistance in completing the form, please contact the Complaints Team for advice.
Can I make a complaint about someone else’s barrister?
Yes. You can make a complaint about any barrister, whether or not they were acting for you. However, you should be aware that if you make a complaint against someone else’s barrister, we have no ability to award you compensation. We are only able to take disciplinary action against the barrister, because compensationis only available if you were the barrister’s client.
Can you provide me with legal advice?
No. The staff in the Complaints and Investigations teams are not able to provide you with legal advice. If you require legal advice, you should contact a solicitor or a Citizen’s Advice Bureau.
