The Bar Directory

The Bar Directory is the only official directory of Barristers and Chambers in England and Wales. It is published as a joint venture between the General Council of the Bar® and Sweet & Maxwell, based on data supplied by subscribers to the Bar Council and by chambers.

Sweet and Maxwell has developed a searchable on-line version of the Bar Directory which can be accessed from this website. It is based upon sections of the printed Bar Directory and includes information on Chambers, practising barristers in self-employed practice and barristers in employed practice. The on-line Directory does not include information on non-practising barristers or barristers who are practising overseas.

The Bar Council also publishes:

a list of barristers who can accept instructions direct from the public under the Public Access Rules; and
a list of barrister mediators.
