Code of Conduct

This is the 8th Edition of the Code of Conduct of the Bar of England & Wales. It came into effect on 31st October 2004.

The on-line Code is fully searchable. If you are looking for a particular provision but do not know the relevant paragraph number you are encouraged to first visit the ‘Arrangement of Sections’ pages which provides a brief outline of each provision of the Code.

There is also a useful section on amendments made to the Code since the 8th edition came in to effect. This will be added to as further amendments arise.

Hard copies of amendments to the Code are published periodically throughout the year. They will be sent to you automatically if you have purchased a copy of the Code. The on-line version of the Code is updated immediately an amendment comes into effect.
